In this deeply personal and surrealist drawing, Raneem uses the iconic imagery of a watermelon slice to frame a scene of devastating grief. The seeds of the fruit transform into the falling rubble of homes, while the red flesh bleeds into the earth. At the base of the curve, a young child clings to a stuffed animal, seeking refuge within the symbol of their nation while surrounded by a dark, encroaching void.

"Is this a dream? I woke up late today, dressed hastily, and went down the first step. Then everything changed. I wish it were a dream from which we would awaken to destruction, the blood of our loved ones. We lost them, and they lost a part of their bodies, a shelter. Everything became ashes of fire. I hope I am dreaming."
